South Australia's official Plastic Free Places program.
Centred in Adelaide, Plastic Free SA is the pilot community in South Australia for Boomerang Alliance's Plastic Free Places program.
In a nutshell, we work directly with food retailers in identified precincts* in SA and assist them to switch from single-use plastics to better alternatives. We also work with food retailers outside these areas who apply to join.
But... that's just the beginning. We also work with councils, suppliers, manufacturers and composters to deliver real solutions to businesses.
And if that's not enough.. we aim to inspire our community (i.e. YOU) to make changes in your own life and support those businesses that do too.
*Currently, our identified precincts are Adelaide Central Market, Surf Life Saving SA, Jetty Road, Brighton, The Parade, Norwood, Adelaide Airport, Sturt Football Club, Council of Yankalilla, SA Museum, Flinders Medical Centre, Township of Uraidla, Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide Oval and Rundle Mall.

Our impact (and counting)

Our impact as at August 1, 2023 is:
*Plastic Free Champions are members that have eliminated all of our key plastic items (straws, coffee cups & lids, takeaway containers & lids, food ware (cutlery, plates, cups etc), water bottles & bags).
